Procopio Name Meaning: Italian (Calabria) and Greek (Prokopios): from the personal name Procopio, Greek Prokopios, from pro ‘before’, ‘in front’ + kope ‘cut’, actually an omen name meaning ‘success’, ‘prosperity’ but as a Church name taken to mean ‘pioneer’ as it was the name of the first victim of Diocletian’s persecutions in Palestine in ad 303. The original description of the Arms (shield) is as follows: (translated from Italian) "Quartered: 1 and 4 blue; two gold apricot trees, uprooted, place horizontally; 2 and 3 gold; four red vertical bands, flanked silver with two black eagles, crowned black".

Salvatore and Rose came to America separately. Salvatore arrived in May 1903 from Gasperina, Italy. Rose arrived in July 1902 from Montauro, Italy. Both villages are in the province of Catanzaro in the southern Italian region of Calabria. Both came through Ellis Island on their way to Philadelphia, PA. They married 11 Nov 1907 and had 11 children. My grandfather, Nicholas Anthony, was their second child and oldest son. Salvatore was a tailor and after moving to Beverly, NJ opened his own tailor shop on Warren St.
